A splash of nostalgia and a constant meeting with my end!
Mushy's Adventure brought back that old school platformer style where simplicity governs the theme and its the player who will make mistakes leading to their own demise. It took me about half an hour to complete those 10 levels, but mind you, each level needed only a minute. Impatience is the true enemy here and it's great when the challenge of a game is yourself. The game as a whole is cute and a fun quick experience, but I also see much potential to improve by taking it to the next level or for the developer to outdo their previous work. Incredible Job!
Notes: To see the menu, I did have to press ESC 3 times, the third being the one that opens the menu. Another thing is the jump sound, it occurs whenever you press space even if you are already in mid jump.
Thankyou for pointing out that how the challange of the game is yourself, and it only took half an hour to finish ten level! These information could be useful when I am making a trailer or just updating the description.
In the notes, the bugs is already known! Thanks for pointing out and It will be fix in the next update!
Enjoyed playing this. In particular, the little touches of humour and incidental stuff (like the slow motion button). The character controls very well too. I ended the game when I got stuck behind an orange background though! I think it was the third level, where there's a big drop and I went through the floor. I wasn't too much of a fan of the fight mechanics or the randomly dropping squirrels. The traditional Mario-style jump kills would be better for me- especially as the jumping is very good in this.
One thing that might confuse people is the presentation style- I assumed it was going to be a mobile-style platformer at first, with single-screen levels you complete in about 30 seconds (partly due to the level select screen). Instead it's more of a quest-based adventure. This is better for me, so I'd recommend emphasising and enhancing the adventure aspects of this. Or not- it's your game after all- do what you want ;)
I think the problem is vsyncing. I think I accidentally turned off vsync and when it lags it would go through colliders... Sorry for getting stuck. I would fix that in the next update.
If you want to enchance the adventure aspect, how do you want me to do it? I would love a feedback <3
I suppose there's plenty you could do- add characters, items, tasks, maybe instead of a plain, blocky level select screen, you could do a Super Mario Bros 3 style level select map. Just depends on what direction you want your game to take.
My favourite recent platform game is called 'Manorvania'. It's always worth searching that if you want some inspiration :)
Played the first 5 levels without any major issues. The items I noted while playing were:
- When first starting the level it sometimes takes upto 3 presses of the escape key to open the menu - I was getting a lot of screen tearing while playing, maybe VSync isn't being enabled? - When clicking another window on my second monitor the monitors would both disconnect/reconnect. It seems something isn't being handled right here. - It would be good to have a windowed mode rather than only be able to run the game in full screen mode (that may fix the above as well) - Maybe the special could have a cooldown bar to show when it is available again - Pressing jump while the paused menu is open will unexpectedly perform a jump once the menu is closed - The music volume doesn't seem to affect the main menu music
-Press F11 will actually toggle window mode! I should make that clearer in the game.
-I should enable vsync. I think I accidentally disabled it?
-I would need to fix the escape button bug. Sorry for the inconvienient!
-For “When clicking another window on my second monitor the monitors would both disconnect/reconnect. It seems something isn't being handled right here.”, I don’t really get why or is it related to the game, because I personally don’t have two monitors. I might not be able to fix it.
-For the special cooldown bar, I will need to add it.
No problem. Using F11 to switch between full screen & windowed fixed the multiple montior issue I had. Another issue though, while windowed returning from the game to main menu switches back to full screen when ideally it should remain windowed. Hope that helps.
I've played your game, it's nice, automatic update checker, that's great. The humor in it is good, really nice graphics.
Some nagative things, when the player is in the air, when pressing the jump button, the jump sound still plays, I would fix that. :) I don't want to seem like a, ya' know smarty-pants but Scores, thats odd, like 1 Scores, you could do it like that Score: 1. But if it's like, some kind of a in-game currency. it's fine.
About slow-mo, there's actually no positive things for it, when it's activated, the player, even doesen't jump, he just hops, you could leave that. But add a positive for that, like, you could one-shot enemies, if you would do that, make a cooldown for that. ;)
Overall: 9.2/10
I hope the game will be succesful! Have a nice day.
About the score, it would be a currency in the future. Because I have no plans of In-app purchases, skins or maybe attack damage can be bought with scores.
For the jumping sound effect, I would try and fix it. This might be too annoying if the player like spamming space key, I would need to fix that!
The slow motion part is kinda useless. I have no idea, and added it just for fun. Maybe in later I will delete the slow motion part from the tutorial, and leave it as a easter egg.
Also, the special attack can one shot enemies in the the later bug fix build! Thank you for the suggestion.
Overall, this comment is very helpful. Thank you so much. <3
You know how could you fix that sfx, if the script that's the player controller, you could copy the part that checks if the player is on the ground, and make if statement that checks if the Jump button was pressed, when it's pressed the sfx plays, and the player is off the ground, the statement says that the player needs to be on the ground, so the Jump effect won't play. If this helped you, then I'm pleased to help. :)
I really liked this! I'll be looking forward to future games from you now.
Likes:
- The harp-like background music is very calm and soothing.
- Signs informing the player how to play and where to go. I never felt lost in any of the levels.
- The cute theme is nice and reminds me a little of Kirby's Adventure.
- The main character is cool and has nice animations.
- The game is easy to play and the levels are not too long.
- Great sense of humor! Especially after dying.
- I also have to say that I really like your game page. Having a Youtube video showing how to install your game is a great idea!
Suggestions for improvement:
- Using the left shift key to attack often results in a Sticky Keys pop-up in Windows which was kinda annoying. It also doesn't feel very natural to use the keyboard and the mouse in a platformer. Instead of fighting the squirrels I found it easier to avoid them. I would suggest getting rid of the mouse controls and remapping the "attack" button to another key on the bottom row.
- I got as far as the level with the vanishing spikes, but didn't really find much use for slow-motion or crouch in any of the previous levels.

Just finished the first few levels and I'm loving the art. I like the slow motion mechanic, cause it works well in a platformer like this. Great game!

I don’t have a linux, I might accidentally just put one file in the zip. Sorry for the inconvenience!
I will fix it with the update, It should be fixed in some day in 29th Jan - 5th February.
It should be fixed now, try it!

I thought of an other idea of doing this but this looks like more optimistic, thanks!

Thank you for the suggestion! Im going to post a improvement and bug fix demo with this suggestion!
I would relocate the controls, maybe make the attack button to F and special attack to E, crouch button to maybe shift or left ctrl.
Maybe I should make a option that they can get rid of the slow motion because it is not that useful.
This will help the game a lot more! <3
